As a representative enterprise in the medical field, GE Healthcare has been deepening its cooperation with the Chinese market since 1979.

Recently, Xu Jun, Vice President of GE Healthcare China, was interviewed by China News Finance, where he shared the development of GE Healthcare in the Chinese market. How has GE Healthcare developed in the Chinese market over the past 30 years? What are its current strategies in the Chinese market?

"For every three CT machines sold globally, two are produced at the Beijing factory."

Xu Jun introduced that currently, GE Healthcare has five major production bases in Beijing, Tianjin, Wuxi, Shanghai, and Chengdu. Among them, the Beijing base, as the imaging equipment manufacturing base, is the first production base established by GE Healthcare in China, including two factories, Hangwei Tongyong and Huali, which were established in 1991 and 1995, respectively.

He remarked that the Beijing base of GE Healthcare has undergone tremendous changes in the past 30 years. He said that initially, the Beijing base produced 16-slice CT machines, but now it can produce 256-slice CT machines and molecular imaging products. Initially, the Beijing base could only produce basic products, but now it can produce advanced and full range products.

"The Beijing factory is very important for GE Healthcare, and currently, for every three CT machines sold globally, two are produced at the Beijing factory."

Xu Jun also stated that the official landing of the high-end molecular imaging equipment production line at the Beijing base marks a new milestone for GE Healthcare. GE Healthcare combines its own development with China's research and innovation capabilities, enabling the CT products from the Beijing base to reach new heights.

"Over 78% of the products sold in China are domestically produced."

By 2023, GE Healthcare will upgrade its strategy in China to "comprehensive localization, boundaryless innovation, and win-win cooperation." What do GE Healthcare's "comprehensive localization" and "boundaryless innovation" strategies mean?

"'Comprehensive localization' is GE Healthcare's established strategy in China. Over 78% of the products we sell in China are domestically produced, and the localization rate is increasing every year."

Xu Jun stated that GE Healthcare's "comprehensive localization" in China is not just about the localization of products but covers the entire chain from research and development to production, sales, and maintenance. GE Healthcare strengthens both its production chain and supply chain in China with domestic benchmarks. At present, GE Healthcare has over 1,800 people in its research and development team in China.

He also mentioned the concept of "boundaryless innovation" in GE Healthcare's China strategy. Firstly, it aims to enhance collaboration internally within the company and between teams, better integrating GE Healthcare's innovation with industry, hospitals, and research institutions, and integrating the development of "industry, academia, and research" into GE Healthcare's development. Secondly, it aims to embed GE Healthcare's innovation into products, better serving patients and service recipients.

Xu Jun stated that the Chinese medical field has shown a very positive development trend in the past five years, and GE Healthcare has been a beneficiary and participant in this trend.

"We are optimistic about the Chinese market and its development. GE Healthcare adheres to the 'comprehensive localization, boundaryless innovation, and win-win cooperation' strategy in China, sharing the opportunities of Chinese-style modernization with our partners."
