It is especially urgent for Yichang City, which is at the forefront of the "Great Protection of the Yangtze River" and suffered from the "Chemical Encirclement of the River", to guard the sewage outlets into the river. In mid-October, all media reporters from Hubei Daily visited Yichang's sewage outlet to check the effectiveness of the remediation.

　　In Yidu Hubei Minsheng Bio-Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., the reporter saw that the company's sewage has been connected to the Honghuatao Town Sewage Treatment Plant. Before the purified factory sewage is connected to the treatment plant, the indicators of hexavalent chromium, ammonia nitrogen, and PH must be comprehensively tested.

According to Ai Chuanwu, a staff member of the Yidu Water Affairs Bureau, Honghuatao Town currently has only one sewage outlet, and all sewage is connected to the Honghuatao sewage treatment plant and discharged after treatment. Yidu City has formulated a plan to close the sewage outlets along the river. From 2018 to 2020, four sewage outlets of Yidu East Sunshine Company will be closed in batches, and all sewage will be connected to the sewage treatment plant.

Xiaoting District, Yichang City, the first alluvial plain after the Yangtze River exits the Three Gorges, where the chemical industry surrounds the river, and the 17.2 kilometers of the Yangtze River bank line, 11 sewage outlets continuously discharge turbid water, diene, and epoxy progesterone to the Yangtze River every day. After the renovation, there is only one sewage outlet that drains directly into the river.

 Yihua Group, located in Xiaoting District, used to have 3 sewage outlets, but now one of the sewage outlets has been sealed, and the other two have been converted into rainwater outlets. The reporter saw on the spot that the pipes of the blocked outlets had been cut off, and the water discharged from the other two outlets was basically free of pollutants.

　According to Zhou Zhenzhong, a staff member of the Yichang Water Resources Bureau, in order to solve the dilemma of the "Chemical Encirclement of the River", Yichang implements up-to-standard sewage discharge, and only one sewage outlet is set up in a park. Xiaoting Industrial Park has closed the sewage outlets of Shuyun Paper, Yihua Thermal Power, Yihua Fertilizer and other enterprises along the river, leaving only one sewage outlet of the Xiaoting Sewage Treatment Plant. In the Dianjun District of Yichang City, the sewage outfall of Pusong Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. and the sewage outfall of Damen Ship Co., Ltd. in Xiling District were also banned.

Since 2017, Yichang has shut down 25 chemical companies in accordance with the law, many of which have an output value of over 100 million yuan and profits and taxes over 10 million yuan. At present, more than 200 sewage outlets into the river have been rectified, more than 40 sewage outlets have been blocked, 31 sewage treatment plants have been built, and another 42 are under construction.

 Sewage enters the river to take a trip "Diene, epoxy progesterone"

At the sewage outlet of the sewage treatment plant in Xiaoting District, Yichang City, a 90-mu ecological wetland was completed in August this year. The reporter saw that the sewage from the sewage treatment plant flows into the wetland. After a 1.5-kilometer ecological purification journey, the turbid water becomes a clear stream. According to the design, it can process 20,000 tons of water per day.

"The ecological wetland has 28 underflow ponds covered with stones and planted with aquatic plants, just like a large filter screen. The water discharged after treatment by the sewage treatment plant flows into the underflow pond. The suspended solids, impurities and Nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus are filtered out by pebbles and aquatic plants.” Zhou Zhenzhong said that gravel and plant roots have an adsorption effect. The domestic sewage contains elements such as nitrogen and phosphorus required by plants. The water enters the backwater diversion ditch after purification in the underflow pond. The 7 surface ponds are respectively planted with water lilies, lotus, and myriophyllum. Together with the bottom soil, the water will be filtered 7 times. Part of the filtered water will be used for industrial production by surrounding enterprises, and the other part will be discharged into the Yangtze River.

A small constructed wetland with the same principle has also been built in the Sanbanhu Sewage Treatment Plant in Yiduzhi Town. The effluent from the sewage treatment plant can reach Class III surface water standards after treatment. At present, Yichang plans to construct constructed wetlands at the sewage outlets of five sewage treatment plants in Zhangcunping Town, Anfusi Town, Wangdian Town, Shuanglian Industrial Park, and Yafan.

Online monitoring of sewage outlet water quality, epoxy progesterone

The reporter saw that every sewage outlet in Yidu City has a sign upright, clearly marking the supervision unit, emission standards and other information. "Except for the sewage outfalls that are about to be shut down and the sewage outfalls under construction, there are no signs, the rest are clearly coded, the river sewage outfall signboards are set up, and all the sewage outfalls into the river are publicized as required. Supervision by the masses." Zhou Zhaohong, a staff member of the Yichang Water Resources Bureau, said that in accordance with the requirements of "visible, measurable, and monitoring", Yichang conducts standardized construction and management of all sewage outlets into the river, and the sewage outlets of urban and rural sewage treatment plants. All have improved the Bap flow trough, water quantity and water quality online monitoring system.

Establish a water resources management information platform in Yichang City, which can be used to conveniently manage the files of sewage outfalls into the river and query supervision information. All the sewage outlets into the river in Yichang City and 14 counties and urban areas form a "map", which can intuitively grasp the distribution and change information of the sewage outlets into the river. At the same time, supervisory monitoring of sewage outlets above designated size was carried out. Yichang City carried out routine monitoring of 10 river discharge outlets and supervised monitoring of 19 key river discharge outlets.
